YOUTH LEADERSHIP SUMMIT
Each year two high school juniors are selected to represent Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative at the TECA Youth Leadership Summit. MLEC works with school guidance counselors to select students based on their interest in government and strong leadership abilities. Representative selection is rotated among the seven high schools in MLEC's service area.
While at the Youth Leadership Summit held each year in Nashville, students participate in leadership training and visit with their representatives from the legislature and senate. During cooperative learning sessions, the students form a mock cooperative and go through role play exercises.
The summit teaches students to grow as leaders and helps them understand the important contributions that Tennessee’s cooperatives make to our state. We're building future co-op members and future community leaders.
“The Youth Leadership Summit was one of the most spectacular and enriching experiences I have ever had the pleasure of attending. I gained life-long friends, memories, and knowledge about leadership, the Tennessee state government, and electric cooperatives. MLEC and TECA provided me one of the best experiences in my high school career with the Youth Leadership Summit .”Olivia Kennedy, MLEC 2017 Youth Leadership Summit Attendee
