WASHINGTON YOUTH TOUR
Calling all high school juniors!
Win SCHOLARSHIPS and/or a TRIP in MLEC's Washington Youth Tour Short Story Competition!
Each year, MLEC offers the Washington Youth Tour Short Story Contest to high school juniors through English classes at their local high school. We provide a theme and materials to get them started.
Local Scholarships: MLEC awards the top boy and girl at each high school residing with an MLEC member a $1,000 scholarship. The overall five-county MLEC winner receives $2,000, and competes for an additional $3,000 in scholarships.
Youth Tour: Each school’s top winner wins an expense-paid, week-long trip to Washington D.C. and could win a $10,000 scholarship. The Washington Youth Tour, sponsored by MLEC and the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association (TECA), provides young leaders with an opportunity to explore Washington D.C. and learn about government and cooperatives while developing their leadership skills.
*Home schooled/private school students will be grouped with the public high school that they would attend. All scholarship winners must reside with an MLEC member.
2018-2019 Theme: “Electric Cooperatives: Connecting Communities”
MLEC Deadline: March 1, 2019 (Junior English teachers will require an earlier deadline.)
